Wisdom Teeth Removal

What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?

The third molars typically begin to develop around the time a patient is about 18 to 25 years old. If the wisdom teeth aren’t able to come in on their own, they essentially become impacted or stuck underneath the gums. When this happens, the teeth can become infected, painful and cause swelling and damage to surrounding teeth. It is best to have impacted or problematic wisdom teeth removed as soon as possible.

Why Would Wisdom Teeth Removal Be Needed

Why would Wisdom Teeth Removal be needed?

If you leave impacted wisdom teeth in place, they can eventually pose a threat to your oral health. Oftentimes, they’ll become painful and swollen. They may even push against surrounding teeth, causing orthodontic issues. In severe cases, they can even damage surrounding teeth and cause recurrent headaches and earaches. It is never too soon or too late to consider having them removed.

Who Is A Candidate For Wisdom Teeth Removal

Who is a candidate for Wisdom Teeth Removal?

There is no age limit when it comes to who would benefit from wisdom tooth removal. We will examine your teeth and take special x-rays to identify where the wisdom teeth are located and if they’re impacted. If you are experiencing pain or issues involving the wisdom teeth, we will often suggest that they be removed. Because the third molars won’t serve a purpose to your dental health, it is safe to have all of them removed.

What happens during the Wisdom Teeth Removal process?

The process begins with anesthetic or sedative of your choice. We will discuss your options when you come in for a consultation appointment regarding surgery. The surgery itself involves making a small incision through the gums and then extracting the underlying third molar. Sutures are placed to close the gums and we repeat this process for any other wisdom teeth that need to be taken out. It’s normal to have some pain and swelling following the surgery, but you’re doing something beneficial for the future of your smile by having the wisdom teeth removed.

what are our patients saying?

Great service, knowledgeable doctor. I visited Optima Dental Spa and was incorrect told the basic service I needed to be provided was not covered by insurance. At Optima they took three unnecessary x-rays. Dr. v was more knowledgeable and didn’t require x-rays to cement my crown back on. Highly recommend him.
